Tử già yếu, đau ốm, nằm trong hang. Tất cả các loài thú đều đến thăm vị chúa tể, chỉ có một mình Chồn không đến. Chó Sói lợi dụng cơ hội, ton hót với Sư Tử:
- Tên Chồn ngạo mạn, xem chúa không ra gì, nên chẳng thèm đến viếng ngài!
Chồn khi ấy cũng vừa đến và kịp nghe những lời của Sói. Sư Tử hầm hầm với Chồn.
Chồn xin được phép giãi bày:
- Ai trong số các vị tụ tập tại đây có thể lo lắng cho ngài hơn tôi? Tôi đã chạy khắp nơi, tìm thuốc hay ở khắp các danh y cho ngài, và tôi đã tìm được rồi...
Sư Tử lập tức bảo Chồn cho biết bài thuốc ấy. Chồn thưa:
- Ngài hãy cho lột da Sói đang sống và khoác bộ da lên mình. Ngài sẽ khỏi bệnh.
Khi Sói chịu cực hình, Chồn cười bảo Sói:
- Cần khêu gợi điều tốt, chứ không phải điều xấu ở người cầm quyền.
